Ancestry 1911 Census
Hi trying to find which is the better one to subscribe to ancestry.com or findmypast.com?

its a 70th birthday present. My father’s english with some irish great grandparents. His father was born just 5 months after the april 1911 census
Our family is all based in the UK so am wondering whether findmypast.com is better than US based/centric?? ancestry.com
Thanks!
Thanks to everyone so far with all their input – much appreciated!

http://www.familysearch.org is a free service has a lot a information and records that can be accessed for free. My family is also based in the UK and I have been satisfied with the results. They have partnered many times with ancestry.com and findmypast.com to digitize records, so I am sure you will be able to find a lot there. But I guess free doesn’t make the best present… good luck!

What was it like to live in Dublin in 1911? Who lived there? What work did they do? What big events happened that had everyone talking? How did the people get around? What did everyone read? Did religion play a big part of life? What did people do for fun? *** 100 years ago, Dublin, Ireland was on the cusp of a dramatic decade. Little did Dubliners know of the changes that were coming: the lockout, the war, the 1916 rising, and independence. This book takes a look at Dublin during 1911, working through the year’s events to explore themes such as poverty, health, the flight to the suburbs, leisure, and transport. Based on research carried out by the Royal Irish Academy and the National Archives of Ireland, the book also contains rich illustrations, fold-out census reports, and previously unpublished photographs.
