What is the origin of the surname Wagensommer?
I was curious to know what my ancestry is. Thank you.
It is pronounced wag-in-summer
The name Wagensommer derived from a medieval German word for plough-blade. That word is not in use since a long time anymore, and people started to misread the name. So it has got a lot of variations. Obviously, it was given to smiths.
A genealogist was so kind to post the history of this name on the web. Unfortunately, there is no English translation. All versions of this name can mostly be found in southern Germany, Wagensommer has a hotspot in the Southwest.

But now again, there is this old problem that the origin of a name is not the same thing as the origin of a family with that name. Names are able to spread and to cross borders. So it will be necessary to trace your ancestors, and a surprise is not impossible.
