Canada Ancestry Search
Is there anyway to get geneology/ancestry facts about about ancestors in Canada without having to buy the info?

I would really like to trace my ancestry, in particular my Paternal Grandfather. I have a few facts to go on, but little is known about him since he left my grandmother shortly after my dad was Born. My Dad would love to have some insight into his heritage and it seems his mother felt the need to take any info she had on him to her grave… Of course the chance of anything ever coming of such knowledge is long gone, but at least it would answer questions an old man has wondered for a long time… I am very leery of paying into a search site and am not sure if any can actually produce much . Is there any suggestions?
