What is the evolutionary history of pinnipeds (seals)?

Is separated from the canines ursids early or early? I know dogs and bears share a common ancestor after the separation seals evolved. I'm just not sure which of them are more closely related. With most of seals and sea lions are believed dog, but then you see the walruses, elephant seals and leopard seals, and you think you have. Just curious. I love Evolutionary Biology, which is great for me. :-)

They are most closely related to bears than to dogs, I think, but probably seals and bears both were separated from the more primitive, and it is likely that the extinct group, Caniform. They have recently discovered a basal terrestrial pinniped who lived more than 20 million years. More information here: http://www.livescience.com/animals/090422-walking-seal.html
