I trace my family tree?
I am looking for a free / cheap way to research my family tree I have information dating from 1853, but have become a target after that. I want to go as far as possible. thanks
Ancestry.Com is not free, but the public library may have a subscription to it you can use for free. Ancestry.Com 's real value is in its original source records. They have all the U.S. Census 1930. The 1940 and later are not available to the public yet. They have a lot of military and draft records of enlistments, as well as a number immigration and other records. They have transcribed the records but you can see the original images. There are errors in the transcripts, including censuses, but seeing the original will have mercy on the transcribers. Just tell the difference between its records and family trees submitted by the subscriber. You have to be extremely cautious about Information in family trees on ANY website, free or have to pay to subscribe. The information can be useful clues about where obtain the documentation, but nothing more. You'll frequently see other information on these people of different subscribers.
