Any Indian traditional customs of the wedding?
My boyfriend and I are planning our wedding. I am having a problem though, I'm Italian by heredity, and the first member of my family to marry outside of my family heritage. I marry an Indian man, whos parents and a large part of the family come of India. I would love to incorporate some of the traditions and customs are at our wedding. He asked not to have a tradtional ceremony as would mainly things for the reception. We're having a theme of the Indian jungle (five feet flowering trees full of flowers all around the room and trees 3 feet for centerpieces. We'll have monkeys, frogs, birds, etc all made of flowers, each table has a different animal.) But this is only the decor, what I can do to make your mother more comfortable and happy with our wedding? I do not know if this is relavent but his family is from Uttar Pradesh and Hindu. His mother does not speak English
Well, I am Indian and my boyfriend is white. We are having some Indian elements in our wedding. I'll be using an Indian lehenga choli I shop online. My wedding attendants (I will not have bridesmaids) are wearing saris. We are planning to have henna. Nor do they want the traditional whole thing (is too much and too expensive). Also We're playing Indian music for the reception. We are also buying invitations from India. Hm, I think it's everything you can imagine. If desired, you can make your a wedding Mandap, which is a sort of a canopy / tent for the bride and groom and the priest and parents. He could wear Indian (Sherwani). Talk to your boyfriend about what elements Indians who would like to keep. Also I have to agree with the vegetarian. Many Indians are vegetarians, so you have to be careful to have food for them. Our wedding is totally vegetarian, for both my boyfriend and I are vegetarians for ethical reasons, but we do not really have many Indians come to the wedding (it is a small wedding actually). I have curiosity about how this issue is going to work the forest, sounds weird, but I'm sure you have a better idea of what I do:) Your mom probably feel strange in the decoration, because they usually involve Indian weddings tons of flowers and images of Ganesh (that elephant-headed god everyone has seen). Most Hindu weddings I've been using tons of flowers, and is not really an issue, so his mother can feel weirded about animals made of flowers.
