I asked a previous question on a family tree for my project for school children, but what if it was for myself?
I mentioned before that I found out it was adopted as three years ago (around 36), and all responded if the tree of the family was for a child to be used the adoptive family she knows and grew up w /, but what if I was doing it for me then? Would a "bad" family tree using the adoptive family, because if they were all Irish, but my biological family was German, so I'm not Irish. It is a family tree to find out about your heritage of our ancestors?
You know, in the purest definition, genealogy is technically a bloodline effort. But in reality, is really a story. And like any story, which is always full of things taken on faith, best guess, other people's best guesses or in writing (or in fact no documents). One thing to keep in mind when designing the genealogy is strictly bloodline. There is a fundamental element of genealogy, by definition, is always a matter of faith … that is parenthood. There is no way to know with 100% certainty that any person identified as a father was actually the father. No way. It really what the mother said often. But perhaps it is still uncertain who the father (and have several candidates), or a man identified specific some personal reason. Or maybe it really is the father. We just had the faith, until perhaps have some information that would cause us to question the faith that is correct. So it really is a story, and any genealogist KNOW experience any significant tree is full of possiblies, hypothesis, assumptions. But the plug along to develop a story. If I had done a genealogy of his family 10 years ago, and even when found out you were adopted you have a historic treaty in his beautiful mother and father's family. Maybe not your mother and father, but surely your mom and dad. Certainly we have some of the components biological make us who we are. But many would argue (myself included) that makes us who we are is any biological mum and dad and our family. In some cases, mom and dad are our mother and father, but Mom and Dad made us what we are without doubt stronger ways that contributions our biological mother and father. But it is a story, and joy in genealogical research is to discover that history. Is not the name once you pass to anyone who has ever known names are very fair. But is history, culture, lifestyle, what they faced, all the great details that you never get in the classroom academic history is beauty. I've been doing this for 22 years. And I've gotten as much joy in providing services for unrelated persons I have in my own genealogy. If I told her seventh great grandfather was Hiram Jacobs, born 1730 in Baltimore, MD, died 1780 in Richmond, VA, and Whoopee. I really would not be very different than if you went looking for her mom and dad the line and told the same thing. It is a historical person. But what of Hiram? Was a farmer He did fight in the revolution, what is the historical context of his life. That's the joy. The genealogy of his mother and father is both a part of you (Maybe more) that the genealogy of his mother and father. And most important, and enjoyable to follow.
