I'm trying to find ways to use index cards to assign my tree …?
I'm trying to use index cards where to put each family member on its own card. Problem is, I can not find a way to tie them together so that I can recognize as a child from another relationship is or whatever. For example, if wrote a card for a father, mother, sister and brother … I'm not sure how to indicate that all are interrelated before going ahead with their spouses and children. Does anyone have any idea what I can do to show how these people relate to each other?
There are two ways to see what I can do this, both of which I used for different purposes. The first is a long hand version that, while devoting a whole sheet of paper for each person, it would be difficult something as compact as an index card. To sum up in regard to relationships, the top is the individual's name, below are the parents' names, and brothers, spouses and siblings below. The long form looks a bit like this: http://www.irving.lib.tx.us/pdf/ A familygroup.pdf far the easiest way for something as compact as index cards to use a numerical system, each person is assigned a number, and in cases of siblings, a letter too. Example: 1 = 1-A self-older brother-B = 1 = his older brother, and so on. 2 = Your Father 2-A = Your father's brother 2-B = older brother who is Father and Your Mother etc 3 = 3-A = Your mother's brother, etc 4 = Your father is the father of her 5 = 6 = the mother of your mother's father Father 7 = mother's mother your 8 = Your father's father's father 9 = His Father Mother Father 10 = His Father is His Father Mother Father Mother 11 = 12 = Mother's mother's father's father 13 = Your mother is the mother father 14 = Your mother is the father of the mother 15 = Your Mother Father Mother You can find how visually using a pedigree chart: http://www.irving.lib.tx.us/pdf/pedigree.pdf Hope this helps everyone a little. Being the kind of person I am I can not go as small as index cards.
