What genealogy software is best?
I have been using family tree maker for several years. Right now I have a version above, and was thinking of upgrading to 2008, but I read so many negative comments that make me think. I read that this new FTM is a completely new program and not a continuation of previous versions. FTM I liked what it was and I do not know how good is this new software. According to many, an update to this is actually downgrade. In addition, I have been thinking about the free software the LDS Personal Ancestral File. I've never used, but I wonder how does this compare with other software Genealogy on the market. Of course, if I can install PAF I would buy the companion PAF, so if anyone uses this I'd love to hear about their experiences.
I also use FTM longer. Each time a new version comes out, there are always complaints against him. For some reason, just can not get to have it all when published. I tried a couple of other programs and I still prefer the interface of FTM. In my opinion, the data entry is much faster and easier. If you are looking for a serious approach to Genealogy I would suggest the master genealogist. The interface looks a bit at first, but really poor quality software is designed to "The Master Genealogist." The software is very particular about referrals and appointments, and I think it has more options chart FTM. I have also heard that the legacy is considered one of the best software out there. I've never tried personally but the comments I read that I recommend. The only thing that has FTM other programs is not the integrated online database. So if you are a subscriber to Amcestry.com, FTM links to transfer data. No appointment is necessary, but is an option. Look around for some trials and testing out what works best for you.
