I am interested in my paternal family tree. I have very little information to go on. What are my best options?
I know my grandmother's maiden name and my first name and surname of the grandfather. She gave birth to my father in 1909 in Louisville, Kentucky know nothing more. No one has ever tried a tree on the side of my Father, so I wanted to be the first to try, but you may not have sufficient information. I know nothing about genealogy, but I'm open to suggestions and sources.
In the genealogy, we document everything. Too budding genealogist become frustrated and leave because someone else to copy some tree that had documented incorrectly and later learned they were investigating the wrong ancestor. There is an excellent tutorial for those who are new to family research in http://rwguide.rootsweb.ancestry.com/; I recommend everyone start in genealogy. After completing the tutorial, the following is a basic plan usually only need the tools and has as its equipment and Internet service provider. The person you know about you is, well, start with your birth certificate, which is to their parents, and then ask their parents for copies of birth certificates, to be his grandparents in them. Then, if the grandparents are living, continue the process. At some point, you experience a problem, depending on when the grandparents or great-grandparents were born in that birth certificates did not exist before 1900. Therefore, it is necessary to return to 1930 personnel records, because these types of data are not available to the public from 50 to 100 years, depending on the jurisdiction in which they find themselves. Per copy or order these documents have gone to a relatively low cost and has three generations itself has already documented with primary documents. That will give two parents, four grandparents and eight great-grandparents names to start investigating. Now, you can use death certificates, marriage records, census records, immigration records, records of the church, according to court records and many other sources to research their ancestry. Your public library is very likely that both free Quest.com Ancestry.com and Heritage for anyone to use within the library and a library card you should be able to use Heritage Quest at home. Another free online resource is the SUD / Mormon site, which has many free online records http://www.familysearch.org/ and documents in their original pilot site http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html p # = 0. In addition to their records online, they have Family History Centers where you can get help with the research and look at microfilm and only charge nominal rates if they have to ask for something specifically for you. Find a location near you at their website and call to check hours of operation. http://www.familysearch.org/. In addition, USGenWeb is another free online resource http://www.usgenweb.org/. This site is full of how-to advice, consultations and records of all states and most counties within those states. Then, there Rootsweb http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ a free site hosted by Ancestry.com where you can search for surname, subsequent consultations message boards and subscribe to mailing lists surname. Also, do not forget to check the list and Cyndi in http://www.cyndislist.com/ ProGenealogist top 100 websites in http://www.familytreemagazine.com/articl genealogist … both of these sites have many links for and fee based sites without them.
