Can someone please help….Re: using Family Tree Maker?
I have a very extensive family tree on Ancestry.co.uk with thousands of names and dates etc. I have Family Tree maker but have not used it. I would now like to be able to use it, but I don’t know how to transfer the information from Ancestry to the Tree Maker.
Can some one please explain how to do this in plain english please?
Under “Manage Your Tree” – at least in the American version of Ancestry, there is a button to export your tree – that is what you would use to export it from Ancestry to import to family tree maker.
Export the file – in gedcom format to your desktop – and once finished there – open family tree maker and import it – after it’s imported, save it with family tree maker to the location you want – and then you can delete the gedcom file off your desktop. You’ll then be able to easily upload the new tree anytime you want from family tree maker to Ancestry.
