I want to know about my family tree. How I can know?

My family side. The side of Walker. The lateral Myers. And Smiley-side

Someone asks a question like yours 1-4 times a day, sometimes in the Family category, sometimes in the category of Genealogy, sometimes elsewhere: Where I can find my family tree for free? Does anyone know the () Name of the family? What are good sites for ancestors / Genealogy? I pasted this response is long and in. general. Not all links and paragraphs apply to everyone. If you want to write your name somewhere and get a generation of trees 12, spend the rest of it. I can show you where to dig, but you have to buy your own shovel and make your own. Buying a spade: If you get serious, you will need a genealogy program. Trying to research family without a genealogy program is like trying to write a novel with a pencil and yellow pad, rather than a word processor. I like Roots Magic. Family Tree Maker is the market leader. Both cost about $ 29. Mormons will allow PAF for free download. It is awkward, but it's free. Sometimes you can find older versions of FTM or Family Origins (FOR is the predecessor of RM) in the bargain bins at Costco. These can help you get started. They are large and free. Http: / / www.cyndislist.com/ (240,000 + links, all cross-indexed.) Http://www.familysearch.com (mega-site Mormon) http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi (460 000 000 + entries, of varying quality) = http://www.ancestry.com/learn/facts/default.aspx? ln Surname meanings and origins http://www.tedpack.org/begingen.html My own site: "Getting Started" America only: http://www.usgenweb.net/ (Subdivided into state sites, which all have county sites.) (The Canadians have Canadian Gen Web, by province) http://ssdi.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ssdi.cgi (Social Security Death Index – click on "Advanced.") Http: / / find.person.superpages.com / (USA Tel, to search for distant cousins) United Kingdom only: http://www.genuki.org.uk/ (the largest site for the UK and Ireland) http://www.freebmd.org.uk/ (Free Birth, Marriage and Death Records) Notes: Not found people living in any of the sites except the phone book. You will have to find 'your grandparents or great-grandparents birth dates and maiden names, somewhere besides the Internet. The free sites are supported by advertising, like television. Can not see the Super Bowl without seeing a commercial for beer, and can not be browse by relatives who have died without seeing an advertisement Ancestry. Do not complain about advertising. They bring you the "free" sites. There is no such thing as a free lunch. Since you are data for free, give some thought to helping others. You can search the obituaries in your city for people who publish their applications on the bulletin boards for example. Another of my page tells you how to ask and seek obituaries: http://www.tedpack.org/obit.html
