Dealing with Loss in the housing
The loss of a loved one is never easy, but it is especially difficult when the loss occurs near vacation. It has been a year or 20 years, is likely to feel the loss more acute during the holiday season.
Although everybody hurts otherwise, it is important that you be gentle with yourself and find the best way to deal with their emotions in this intense time of year. What can you do if you punch egg ho-ho-ho are simply not on their radar this holiday season?
- Acknowledge their feelings. His sentiments are simple. Can not hide from they, in fact, is not healthy to try. Regardless of when or where it happened to you, acknowledge your feelings. Giving voice to them. Let the memories flood your mind. Be grateful for them, even angry or sad emotions. But do not stop. There is a difference between allowing the feelings and memories that come to you and making a concerted effort to conjure. Grief has no timeline planned, and there is no right or wrong way to grieve. However, deliberately clinging to the past and refusing to allow healing to occur, you are no longer living in the present – and the risk of losing the special blessings in this present moment.
- Weep if you must mourn. Some people have a real hang up about crying in public, and the tears make some people uncomfortable. But if you have to mourn, not to stifle momentum. You may not want to start a water supply amidst a year-end opinion – but if the tears come unexpectedly, even in front of others Take a moment to acknowledge those feelings. Then take a few deep breaths and compose yourself. If you must be excused from the room, do it. Everyone has experienced a loss at one time or another, so you need not worry that people are judging you.
- Seek support. Sometimes the best we can do is talk to someone about our pain. Be careful, however, not to be surprised or upset if those who have forgotten or appear insensitive about your loss. Occupations of the season, are understandably caught up in their own lives. But his close friends will be there for you. If you have no confidence confident, you might want to consider a minister, counselor or representative from your Employee Assistance Program.
- Say a prayer, blessing or a good thought for your loved one. Perhaps the feelings and memories come because your loved one needs your help with the transition … even years after his departure. Such they want to remember something, or offer a warning. Bless their physical presence on their way to your side and blesses your spirit presence now. Thank them for the gift they have been in his life.
- Light a candle. No one who grew up Catholic are probably familiar with this. It is a beautiful way to recognize Light of the Universe, and to be reminded of your loved one is, and always will be connected to the light.
- Leave an empty chair at the dinner table. Honor your loved one, leaving a literal on the table for their spirit to join you and your family during the holiday dinner (s). You may only want to do this, the first year, as people and traditions come to fill the void in coming seasons. He knows, however, that no one ever take your loved one there.
- Give a gift or donation in his name. You can not just be in the shopping spirit this season. Do not feel bad or apologize. Validate your needs and honor them. Perhaps instead of buying gifts the traditional way, this year you can make a donation to a charity or organization that was special to your loved one.
- Write a letter to your loved one. Grief has many faces. Sadness. Joy in memories. The anger that we are separated from our loved ones. A great tool for healing is to write your loved one a letter to send to all the emotions that are experiencing this season. If they lack, tell them that. If you are angry because are gone, admit it. If there are things left unsaid, they say. Once written, you can burn the letter in a ceremony, buried, or save it until you no longer need to maintain it.
- Do not be afraid to talk to your loved one. Demi Moore was not the only person who talked to ghosts. Many of us feel better if we just talk about our thoughts aloud to our beloved dead. And make no mistake – that we can hear. You can not talk back in the classic sense, but if ask your guides and angels, you may see signs of their responses.
- Start a new tradition. Maybe decorate the tree was always your favorite time of year, with the beloved. If it is too painful, not getting a tree this year. Hang a special crown in place. If you've always colored lights are used, making clear at this time. If grandfather's favorite drink was apple cider, switch to cocoa. Play different music. Visit a church different, or attend the service in the morning instead of evening service this year. Invite someone new over the holidays. There are endless ways to create new memories, even when you recognize your loved one and honor the memories of old.
- Create a scrapbook. Think of your loved ones favorite holiday traditions, songs, foods, etc. Create a scrapbook in her honor. Look through photo albums and letters. Sketch pictures, or create a collage of pictures from magazines. Let your spirit that gives as you build a memory book that honors and provides a way to channel their grief.
