. Ink file? FTM does not recognize it!?

I have used (no problem) Family Tree Maker smoothly for several years and across multiple computers. Like any good researcher, I have always kept my work on a disk in case of computer problems. I used this disc back in place numerous times to charge my research when I moved to a new computer. The last time I used the back-up was using Windows 95 or 98. I received a new laptop with XP on it. When he finally decided to put my genealogy software on my new system would not recognize the backup is saved as a file. ink file. Is there a how to convert this file to a different file extension?? I have years and years of research that does not want to miss. Nobody seems to have an answer. Please someone help me!

I use Roots Magic, who do not have that problem. RM under XP can open old backups made on Windows 95. I guess you have to dig the machine Windows 98 out of the closet, restore files from ink., then export the data as a GEDCOM, then import the GEDCOM to XP machine. Here is a forum totally dedicated to the use of FTM. They might have a more elegant solution. Http: / / genforum.genealogy.com / using / If you threw the Windows 98 machine, you can have to find someone who still has Windows 98 FTM, send them to your files. ink and have them send you a GEDCOM. In RM you have to use File> Import> copy old security, no file> Restore> Old backup that can prove that. They may have anticipated your wishes.
