I am doing my family tree on Ancestry.com and when I add my husband puts a female icon and does not let me?
change to a male icon. Son property of some religious organization, like the Mormons?
By default, your spouse for most of the world will be a member of the opposite sex. It is easier to keep track of things without having to select the sex of the spouse when one's sex is already known. I agree that you should be able to modify sex in the case of a same-sex spouse (not gay marriage or same-sex marriage is only marriage), but I think the default should remain the spouse is the opposite gender sex partner known. I have built many family trees over the years and have to select the sex of each spouse when one already known to be a long and monotonous, let alone can lead to many mistakes. However, I can not know who / what is Ancestry.com, sorry.
