Percy Jackson & The Olympians The Lightning Thief: The Fun Way To Learn Mythology
Literature, mythology, and history are not really my strong suite since I was in High School. If you want to bring me to sleep, then talk about mythology, religion and literature. I can do Math and Programming in my sleep, but I cannot seem to bring myself to interest mythology. Any kind of mythology, may it be Greek, Roman or whatever kind.
When, I was in High School, I just usually stare at my teaching during mythology lessons, feigning interest to some gods roaming on Mt. Olympus but in reality my mind is drifting off somewhere, way beyond the Mt. Olympus. But my “love” to Greek mythology changed when I read the book-series written by Rick Riordan. It is called the Percy Jackson & The Olympians. It is a novel consists of five books.
The story of Percy Jackson & The Olympians talks about the adventure of teenage boy who is half-mortal and half-god or a demigod. The book one of the Percy Jackson & The Olympians series is called “The Lightning Thief.” It tells the story on how Percy Jackson discovers that he is a son of Poseidon, the god of sea.
Following the example of other successful book series like Harry Potter and Twilight Saga, the Percy Jackson is now becoming a movie. The movie series will start off with the Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief. The movie is directed by a renowned director Chris Columbus.
The theme of the movies, as adapted from the novel, is focus on Percy Jackson, a teenage boy who is a demigod, a half-mortal half god. Percy Jackson is unaware of his god ancestry until he was attacked by his teacher. He, then discover that he is the son of a Greek god Poseidon, the god of sea. Percy was sent to Camp Half-Blood, a camp for children with a Greek god parent located on Long Island.
Percy is charged of stealing Zeus’ master lightning bolt. To attest his innocence, he embarks on a journey across modern-day America with his friends Annabeth Chase, a demigod daughter of Athena, and Grover Underwood, a satyr, in order to save his mother and return Zeus’ stolen lightning bolt. Percy is given ten days to return Zeus bolt to Mount Olympus to prevent a war between the gods.
For students who are, like me, struggling with their mythology lessons I would recommend that you should watch Percy Jackson movie online. Maybe you can learn something from the movie that might turn-up in your Greek mythology exam.
