Yes, they have a bunch of records in one place and are easy search. BUT, if you are dedicated to finding information online, you need to become a detective and find sites with good information. And then I could find you can send a money order for the records. There are some very good free sites out there, the first is http://www.familysearch.org. This is the LDS website and have a great amount of free information. The other thing you can do is go to the center of the local LDS family history. Should be included in your local phone book. You do not have be LDS to go and use information. You can use your computer for research and for a small fee you can order microfiche. This is actually the most genealogy took a few years ago in the stone age before computers! The other thing you can do is find some search engines and start sending wanted. if you are using Google, you can try combinations like "Jessie Jeffers" South Carolina 1837. The "" means that search engines look for those words in that combination. It also wants to find "Jeffers, Jessie", etc. Many ways to find the information you have. There are also plenty other free websites that offer good information. Rootsweb is a free forum name. You can send your question there and see if anyone else is doing research on the same names. I have a pretty good list of websites offering free information on the genealogy of my index http://www.genzoli.com/cgc/newindex2a.html club page # top And when you reach a point that calls for someone to actually go and look at a newspaper for an obituary or birth announcement, you can always tag RAGK (acts Random genealogy goodness) There are millions of wonderful people out there who will look for you at no cost. This memoir snaked through several hands (and voices) before landing in playwright Brian Friel's lap. It is the reminiscence of an 80-year-old Irish man, transcribed first in the 1940's by a schoolteacher who found him filled with memorable stories–both of his own and of his ancestors, who had passed the stories down through generations. The book tells of a preindustrial Ireland, of local priests, and of McGlinchey himself, the last of his family line.
