How would I go about finding military records ?
I have my grandfathers army number and regiment (8th Devonshire Reg) Joined up 1915 left in 1919. How can I find more information about his service ?
Thanks.
I contacted a researcher when i was looking for my grandfathers records (didn’t know how else to do it) & gave him the info & he came back with a copy of grandads service record.
When I tried to find out about great grandad I looked at the national archives & found it on there, took more work than writing a letter but was a lot cheaper & more rewarding.
I think now if you try to search the national archives it diverts you to ancestry as they have a tie up with records.
I use ancestry for marriages/births/census etc but haven’t looked at the military records. If you need help shout.

U. S. Military Records by Neagles, James C. Edition ILL, 0 $36.99 From the earliest days of the United States, millions of Americans have served their country in the military. Indeed, most families have seen one or more members serve in America's armed forces. For this reason, genealogists and others wisely look to military records for information needed to enhance their research. Enlistment forms, muster rolls, pension applications . . . records created as a result of individuals' military service are extremely valuable because they often contain detailed personal information about their subjects—date and place of birth, places of residence, names and addresses of loved ones, and more. The researcher's dilemma is in knowing what records are available and how to find them among the overwhelming abundance of military records. James Neagles' U.S. Military Records is the answer to this dilemma. U.S. Military Records describes the records that are available and where they can be found. Gathered in this volume is source information for the National Archives and its adjuncts; historical institutions and archives of the armed forces; the Department of Veterans Affairs (Veterans Administration); state archives, libraries and historical organizations; and such patriotic organizations as the Daughters of the American Revolution. Extensive bibliographic listings of published sources for the United States in general and published sources for each state are also included. |

To the Fallen Records $100.37 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Active duty Army officer and Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran Captain Sean Gilfillan founded To the Fallen Records after returning from his tour of duty in January 2006. While in the military, the longtime music fan met many fellow soldiers who were also extremely talented musicians. Realizing that most of them were having a hard time gaining a following and getting their unique voices heard in the world. Even after finishing his tour, during which he earned the Bronze Star for his service, Gilfillan remained in touch with many of these soldiersongwriters. They continually filled his email inbox with mp3s of their latest tunes, whether they were politicallycharged hiphop tracks, heartfelt country love songs to their loved ones back home, or heavy rock jams that expressed the intensity and frustration of military life.
