Is anyone else researching your family tree?
I am looking for family information. Does anyone know where you can get information online for free? I'm tired of websites that lead you then want to charge you for any useful information. If I paid for all these websites I would have to pawn my PC. I am looking for census information, birth certificates, marriage certificates, military service records or anything I can find. Is there an online community where people share information based on family names? My family has ancestors in the U.S., Canada and England. Any help or pointers It would be appreciated. This diversity makes it difficult. Thank you.
I am doing my family tree. Rate my favorite places personal http://www.rootsweb.com/ http://www.census-online.com/links/ http://www.familysearch.org/ENG/default. asp http://www.gencircles.com/ http://www.usgenweb.com/ http://www.cyndislist.com/ RootsWeb has extensive databases and user provided information. Browse around, not just do a search from the homepage. Also go to the tab web page and check to see if your state, county, country, has a page. Everything listed is free. That's not a great diversity from the beginning. Each generation is adding X2 ancestors. You (1) parents (2), grandparents (4), their grandparents (4), and so on. Start with a simple free program to start a family tree. Add as much information as you can, and as many people as possible. Like this: http://www.download.com/GedLink-Editor/3000-2127_4-10199071.html?tag=lst-0-4 Once you've added everything you can from your own knowledge, talk to your parents, grandparents and any family member older. Take notes on what they have to say. Even the general stories may contain information that can put you on the right track. Most of the site that otherwise noted, will take you to ancestry.com. That is the best absolute genealogy site there is also the most expensive. They have, however, free registration as a guest user which allows access to information Bacis you can use to help you on your journey. It also allows you to submit questions on the boards where you can find people looking for the same family you are. Good Luck!
