Can’t find surname origin?
I’ve looked all over the damn web, and can’t find the meaning or origin of “Salmeen”. All I get is a bunch of false leads (Find “Salmeen” at amazon.com!, “View Salmeen family history…” [ancestry.com]), and empty hands. This is the frickin’ internet, for God’s sake – WTF?! So – does anyone happen to KNOW the origin of this last name – where it comes from? Please do not refer me to ancestry.com or the like. I’ve already checked, and they don’t have shit.
Forgive me, I always get a little pissed at the lack of information, when searching (really hard) where “everything” is supposed to be. Guess I forget, for all my successful, happy hunting times – that the internet isn’t ALWAYS as all-encompassing as it seems! Thanks for the help, in advance.

I couldn’t find any Salmeens in the Ellis Island records, but I found a Johan E. Salimen 18 from Finland sailed on the Paris from Southampton to NY, where his brother lived in 1897.
