where does the surname DaCosta originate?

i have a friend who is portuguese who has the name dacosta but my boyf. is jamaican who has the same surname. just curious to where it could come from. i looked in ancestry.com and the majority of them says its from spain or portugal but i went to name origins and says it comes from jamaica. just out of interest thats all thanks
