Help tracing ancestry?
I want to trace my ancestry and Im new to this so please forgive me if my question seems vague or a little ignorant. People in my family are always telling me that we have a many Native American ancestors, the problem is, no one I’ve talked to so far has any records or names of specific native Americans in my family. Also there are very few elder members alive in my family that might know anything about this. Native American blood is supposedly pretty strong in both my mother and father’s side of the family. No one really knows much on my mother’s side, and Im waiting on my dad to get info from my grandfather and other relatives. I’d like to get in touch with my heritage and maybe even enroll in a tribe if I meet the blood requirements. So in short: How do I go about tracing my ancestry with such little info? I always hear of libraries having huge geneology sections, but I dont really know where to start…
Even if they study gene sequencing on your blood, it’s still a very tough challenge and very little info to go on, since there are quite high number of mixed races with Native American Indian.
The more diversity as it is, the more challenged it is to determine the pedigree!
If your parents still have pictures of your great grandparents or grandparents, perhaps you can ask the cultural anthropolgists, they can help you determine by looking at the facial feature on your ancestors.
Another way that can be determined is through fossil forensic data, but I doubt that your parents would be able to trace back your great-great-great-great-grand parents’ graves.
Fossil/forensic archaeologists or forensic anthropologists are the people that study bones and determine the lineages based on the fossil evidences.
