Defacto Visa for Australia, how does this work when the Australian Citizen lives in the UK?
I am an Australian citizen living in the UK on a LLR 5 year residence permit, I have lived here for 4 years already on an Ancestry Visa. I live with my partner who is a UK citizen and have done so for over 12 months and now we want to live in Australia. I have looked into a Defacto visa but how does the sponsor part of it work as I live and work in the UK so I obviously will not have an income in australia until we get there and get a job. I am confused how this will work! Can my parents be a sponsor? Is there another way to get him there?
You are most unlikely to have any problem and won’t need to have your parents act as sponsors. It’s very common for people who’ve been living overseas with their Australian spouses to apply for spouse visas and proof of your income from the UK for the last 2 years is sufficient. The only time you would have any trouble is if you have been unemployed in the UK or if your income was very low. You do not need to prove any Australian income.
