Jefferson City Missouri
Jefferson City was chosen as Missouris state capital in 1821 and was named after Thomas Jefferson, third president of the United States of America. Jefferson City is located in the Ozark Mountains on the banks of the Missouri River and is near the geographical center of the state. The city is located along Highway 54, Highway 50 and Highway 63, is 30 miles south of Columbia, Missouri, and about halfway between the major cities of St. Louis Missouris and Kansas City. Jefferson City had a total of 39 636 residents from 2000 and the average age was 36 years.
